Welcome to my website. I’m a licensed psychologist and expert EMDR therapist. I approach the complex work of healing trauma, anxiety, and distressing emotional challenges with deep expertise, thoughtfulness, precision, genuine care, and whole-hearted compassion.
I am EMDRIA Certified, a distinction which reflects my advanced education and passion for providing expert EMDR therapy. My education at Harvard and Stanford shaped my commitment to engage in rigorous thinking, ethical practice, and evidence-based care. I tailor therapy individually based on a comprehensive assessment of your needs and goals. Once engaged in therapy we will frequently discuss and evaluate your nervous system responses, goals, and progress.
Complex PTSD (CPTSD or c-PTSD) results from prolonged, repeated trauma which often occurs in childhood or in captivity, in situations where escape was difficult or impossible. It includes core PTSD symptoms (flashbacks, avoidance, hypervigilance) plus deep difficulties with emotion regulation, a negative sense of self, and stress in relationships.
Complex PTSD is related to repeated events that occurred over a long period of time, as opposed to a single traumatic incident.
Life with Complex PTSD can be exhausting and discouraging. You do your best to take care of yourself and move on and still feel overwhelmed, have persistent self-doubt, struggle with relationships, or feel a constant low level sense of threat which spikes with certain triggers. Complex trauma affects not just memories of the past, but also how your nervous system responds to everyday life.
Healing is possible. EMDR Therapy with Dr. Young is an opportunity to work with a therapist who truly understands the depth and complexity of developmental and relational trauma, and has the skills to help you get through it.
Complex PTSD develops from repeated or long-term trauma, especially when safety, support, or choices were limited or non-existent. This may include childhood traumatic experiences, physical and emotional neglect, chronic relational trauma, intentionally inflicted harm, or prolonged exposure to unsafe environments.
Common physical and emotional experiences related to Complex PTSD include:
These patterns are not character flaws, they are adaptive survival responses that once helped you cope.
